Candidate of Sciences (equiv. Ph.D.) - History
Born on January 19, 1954 in Leningrad.

In 1976 - graduated from the Department of Asian and African Studies of Leningrad State University and started post-graduate study at the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies, the Russian Academy of Sciences.

From January, 1981 up to present - researcher at the SPbIOS / the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, chief researcher (from 2021).

From 1982 - Candidate of historical sciences (kandidat istoricheskih nauk, equiv. Ph.D.) with the thesis entitled Legal status of the Bureaucracy in T’ang China. From 2009 - doctor of historical sciences (doktor istoricheskih nauk) with thesis The Chinese Bureaucracy during the T'ang Period (618-907)

The area of research: T’ang administrative and criminal law, the history and functions of traditional Chinese bureaucracy.

Published about 70 works including the Russian translation of the T’ang Dynasty Criminal Code T’ang Lu Shu Yi in four volumes and two volumes of continuing research The T’ang Bureacracy.
