26/11/2024

The Second All-Russia Conference “Hebraistics Session” in memory of Klavdiya Borisovna Starkova (1915‒2000) will take place at the IOM RAS on March 12 (Wednesday), 2024.

The goal of the conference is to bring together specialists working on the written and oral culture of the Jewish people, source studies and philology. The conference is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Hebrew and Semitic studies scholar, Klavdiya Borisovna Starkova, one of the first orientalists in Russia who studied the Qumran scrolls. Her major work is “Literary texts of the Qumran community” (1973). K.B. Starkova was a Candidate of Sciences in Philology since 1944 and a Doctor of Sciences in Philology since 1971. The “Hebraistics Session” continues the tradition of philological research and source studies in the Institute where K.B. Starkova once worked.

The following topics will be discussed at the conference:
- Research on Jewish genizahs, manuscripts and archives;
- Contribution of Russian and foreign Hebraists to research on the Jewish written and oral culture;
- Current philological studies of Jewish languages;
