In 1957, graduated from Leningrad State University, the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Department of Iranian Philology. From 1958 up to December 2013, researcher at the Leningrad/St Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies / Isntitute of Oriental Manuscripts, RAS.
In 1978, defended the PhD Dissertation, Kurdish Poem Zambilfrosh and Its Folklore Versions [Курдская поэма «Замбильфрош» и ее фольклорные версии”], supervised by Dr M.Rudenko.
Dr Musaelyan published eight monographs, including the encyclopedic dictionary Kurdish Tribes [Курдские племена], along with Dr E.Vassilieva, and more than forty papers.
Major research interests:
study of Kurdish literature as represented in written literary texts, bibliographic work, study of ethnohistoric processes.
The 5th International Academic Conference “The Written Heritage of the Orient” dedicated to the 240th Anniversary of P.L. Schilling von Canstadt (1786–1837) will be held at the IOM RAS on April 20–22, 2026.
