Professor Evgeny I. Kychanov is internationally recognized as a leading researcher
in the field of Tangut and Xi-Хia dynasty studies.
The range of his
academic interest is so wide that it has covered all the main issues of
Tangutology: history, law, culture, religion, language and script. In the 1980s, he
published a fundamental work entitled “The Revised and Newly Endorsed Codes for
the Designation of the Reign of ‘Celestial Prosperity’ (1149–1169),” which was
acclaimed by scholars all over the world.
This book contains a study and Russian
translation of the Tangut Code edited in the Tiansheng 天盛 reign period of the
Xi-Xia dynasty. It was discovered in the dead city of Khara-Khoto by P.K. Kozlov in
1909. The original (hereafter referred to as the ‘Code’) is now preserved in the Institute
of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences, in St. Petersburg.
This paper focuses on the study of the verb prefixes which appear in the Code.
