Born on November 22, 1912, in Pyatigorsk.
Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies, in 1937.
From 1939, worked at the Soveit Embassy in China.
In 1943, defended the Habilitation Dissertation The Historical Authenticity of Qu Yuan and his Writings [Историческая достоверность Цюй Юаня и его творчества].
Later worked as a diplomat, the chief editor of Inostrannaya Literatura [Foreign Literature] Magazine.
In 1956, elected as a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
From 1957, a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Moscow.
Major research interests: Chinese literature from the old times to modern period.
On April 10–11, 2023, the Second International Academic Conference “The Written Heritage of the Orient” dedicated to the 160th anniversary of P.K. Kozlov (1863–1935) will be held at the IOM RAS. The conference program is now available.
