Information letter 1
A conference dedicated to
the 90th anniversary of Anatoliy P. Terentiev-Katansky (1934‒1998)
will be held at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, RAS on November 6, 2024. The conference is organized by the Department of Far Eastern Studies and the Department of Manuscripts and Documents, IOM, RAS.
July 29, 2024 was the 90th birthday anniversary of Anatoliy Pavlovich Terentiev-Katansky, a scholar of Chinese and Tangut studies whose research focused on the written and material culture of the Xi Xia state. He is the author of studies on archaeography and paleography of Tangut manuscripts kept at the IOM RAS manuscript collection. Based on these materials, A.P. Terentiev-Katansky wrote several monographs on the history of Tangut and Central Asian books. He is also the author of the book “Material culture of the Xi Xia” and a number of works on Tangut lexicography. While studying Chinese and Tangut xylographs, he conducted research on Central Asian iconography and collected materials for “A Chinese bestiary”. A.P. Terentiev-Katansky’s wide range of interests reflects the research areas that have been traditionally explored at the IOM, RAS.
Specialists in the history of Central Asian book culture, Oriental manuscripts collections, iconography of xylographic books, Chinese bestiaries and related disciplines are invited to take part in the Conference.

Articles based on this conference’s presentations will be accepted for publication in the journals “Pis'mennye pamyatniki Vostoka” and “The Written Monuments of the Orient”. Materials for publication will be selected by editorial boards of these journals.
Format of the Conference: in-person. Participation and publication are free of charge.
