The First All-Russia Conference “Hebraistics Session” will take place at the IOM RAS on March 11–12, 2024.
The goal of the conference is to bring together specialists conducting research on the written culture and tradition of the Jewish people. Texts that shed light on the life of Jewish diaspora in various times and places, are now kept at numerous libraries, museums and archives. The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts RAS has one of the most significant collections of Jewish texts (manuscripts, books, archival materials) in Russia and is the alma mater of generations of outstanding Saint Petersburg Hebraists of the last century.
The following topics will be discussed at the conference:
- Jewish manuscripts: current research issues;
- Contribution of Russian and foreign Hebraists to research on the Jewish written culture;
- Work with Jewish texts done in archives, libraries and museums;
- Epigraphic texts as sources on Jewish culture;
- New technologies and databases in research on Jewish written sources;
- Conservation and restoration of the Jewish manuscript heritage.
