On May 5, 2010, the solemn meeting of the Academic Council dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory took place. The IOM's head, Prof Dr I.Popova delivered her complimentary speech, stressed the merits of the veterans, and passed the honorary letters from the St Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the IOM's researchers and ex-researchers such as Dr O.Akimushkin, E.Alekseeva, V.Guseva, Dr M.Dandamayev, Dr I.Dunayevskaya, Dr V.Livshits, Dr S.Neveleva, N.Putintseva, K.Tchizhikova, Dr E.Tyomkin.

At the meeting Dr S.Marakhonova presented her paper, The Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences during World War 2 [Институт востоковедения РАН в годы войны] in which she described the heroic deeds of the Institute's researchers during WW2. The presentation was supplied with archival photos, the list of the Institite's researchers who died during the war was also given. Their memory was honored with a minute of silence.
