Margarita B. Rudenko (1926-1976) was an orientalist, expert in Kurdish studies, translator, the founder of a new direction in Kurdology — the exploration of Medieval literary manuscripts written on the dialect of Kurmanji. The present edition is a course of lectures delivered by М.B.Rudenko at the Yerevan University Faculty of Oriental Studies in 1970. It contains general information about the Kurds and Kurdistan, as well as a survey of creative work of poets writing in the 14th - early 19th centurics on the dialects of Kurmanji and Gorani.

In the supplement there are published materials for a lecture entitled "The Kurds: everyday life, customs, habits, and culture" (1970), in which the author describes her own observations made in the 1950-1960s in Kurd villages of Armenia, Georgia and Middle Asia.
