Presented here is a special study of Beijing’s historical status as a major centre of Tibetan Buddhism. The period covered begins during the Mongol Yuan dynasty and concludes at the end of the Manchu Qing dynasty (1644—1912). Beijing’s religious significance as a Buddhist centre peaked during the Qing dynasty.
