Dear colleagues!
The Academic Conference “Eliseyev Readings: Issues of Korean Studies and Research on East Asian Literature” dedicated to the 100th birthday anniversary of the outstanding Korean Studies scholar Dmitriy Dmitrievich Eliseyev (1926–1994) will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026 at the IOM RAS.
D.D. Eliseyev, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, who worked all his life at the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies (at present the IOM, RAS), is known in the history of Russian Korean Studies as the most prominent expert on short genres (p'aesŏl, novella) of traditional Korean fiction and a brilliant translator of Korean literature. He was also the first person to conduct research on Korean manuscripts and xylographs kept at the Institute’s collection.
Scholars of literature, history and culture of Korea and other East Asian countries are invited to participate in the Conference.
Conference topics:
- D.D. Eliseyev: his life and research.
- Research on written sources of East Asia.
- Description of East Asian text collections.
- Studies of traditional literature of Korea and other East Asian countries.
- Translation of East Asian literature into Russian.
Participation format: in-person or online.
