January 11, 2026 is the anniversary of Svetlana Sandzhievna Sabrukova, Senior Researcher at the Department of Manuscripts and Documents, IOM RAS.
In 1991, S.S. Sabrukova graduated from the Leningrad State University (Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Mongolian and Tibetan Philology) with the specialization “Orientalist-philologist”. After returning to her native Republic, she worked for 2 years at the Kalmyk Center of Social Sciences (now the Kalmyk Scientific Center, RAS).
In 1994, Svetlana S. Sabrukova began her postgraduate studies at the Saint Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies, and under the supervision of Raisa N. Krapivina she prepared her dissertation entitled “Bodhicaryāvatāra by Śāntideva in the Tibeto-Mongol Literary Tradition” [“Бодхичарьяаватара” Шантидевы в тибето-монгольской литературной традиции]. Successful defence of the dissertation took place on October 21, 1999 at the Dissertation Council of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Saint Petersburg State University.
In 1999–2001 S.S. Sabrukova worked as a research intern at the Saint Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies. On November 2, 2006 she was retained at the same Institute as a Junior Researcher to work with the collection of manuscripts and xylographs in Tibetan. Her engagement with these materials has been shaping her scholarly career for many years. At present, she continues this work successfully and devotedly as a Senior Researcher who carries out the main part of academic descriptive work.
In addition to describing the Tibetan collection, Svetlana S. Sabrukova conducts important research and technical work at the Archive of Orientalists (IOM RAS): she has prepared inventories for collections of notable Mongolists T.A. Burdukova (1912–1987) and N.P. Shastina (1898–1980). Svetlana S. Sabrukova has made important research contributions by studying and publishing materials related to K.F. Golstunsky, A.M. Pozdneev, W.L. Kotwicz, V.I. Rassadin, G.I. Mikhailov. She has published a number of articles that shed light on activities of prominent Russian scholars of Mongolian studies.
Always cheerful, supportive, extremely modest and hardworking, Svetlana S. Sabrukova is highly respected by her colleagues.
On this anniversary, we would like to thank Svetlana S. Sabrukova for many years of diligent and dedicated academic work.
