On August 5, 2025, the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts welcomed a large group of staff members of the Consulate General of China in Saint Petersburg led by the Consul General, Mr. Luo Zhanhui, and his wife.

The guests visited the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the History of Russian Oriental Studies that traces the development of this academic field, highlights achievements of Russian scholars from the establishment of the Asiatic Museum to the present, and explains the role of scientific expeditions in the formation history of the collection of Oriental manuscripts.

During the tour of the exhibition at the Department of Manuscripts and Documents, the guests saw unique manuscripts brought by diplomats and scholars from various countries. Of special interest were expeditions of P.K. Kozlov and S.F. Oldenburg and manuscripts that they brought from Khara-Khoto and Dunhuang.

The guests listened attentively to the guided tour of the Museum and the Department of Manuscripts. For Mr. Luo Zhanhui and his wife this was not their first visit to the Institute. In March 2025 they participated in the opening of the youth conference “China and Its Neighbours” and Ma Xiaodi, Education Counselor at the Consulate General, presented diplomas to the participants. On this occasion, however, all staff members of the Consulate General visited our Institute. The Consul General expressed a wish to continue active cooperation between the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts RAS and the Consulate General of China in Saint Petersburg.
