At the IOM RAS, the project aimed at the processing of the Memorial Library of Dr Oleg F. Akimushkin is carried out.

Dr O.F. Akimushkin, a preeminent Iranist, who headed the Institute's Department of Middle Eastern Studies for many years, died on October 31, 2010. He collected a vast library of books reflecting his various academic interests. These are sources and studies on the history and culture of Iran and Central Asia, history of Muslim mysticism, codicology. Dr O. Akimushkin was an expert of the highest level in all these subjects. A significant part of the library came to him as friendly presents from his foreign colleagues who sent him a lot of rather rare editions, that is a sign of wide recognition of his academic merits.

According to the will of Dr O. Akimushkin, his daughter, Ekaterina O. Akimushkina, offered his library to the IOM RAS, in July 2011. All in all, the library consists of 2627 pieces.

The Memorial Library of Dr Oleg F. Akimushkin will be placed at the Section of Middle Eastern Studies, the IOM RAS. Cataloguing of the library is to be accomplished soon to make it available for researchers.
