Defense of PhD Dissertation by K.Edleeva Print E-mail

On June 23, 2011, at the Dissertation Council of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, St Petersburg State University, the PhD Dissertation by Kermen A. Edleeva, Stylistic and Structural Original Features of Mongolian Hymnal Poetry [Художественно-структурное своеобразие монгольской хвалебной поэзии] was defended. The Dissertation was supervised by Dr I.V.Kulganek; Dr A.A. Burykin and Dr T.A. Pang were the official opponents.

The PhD dissertation was mainly written by K.Edleeva when she was a doctoral student at the Institute of Oriental Studies, the Department of Turkic and Mongolian Studies (now the Section of Central Asia of the Department of Central and Southern Asia), during 2004—2007. In was completed later when she started to work at the Institute of Kalmykian Philology and Oriental Studies, Elista.

In her dissertation K.Edleeva studied Mongolian genre of hymnal poetry, magtaal. She used extensively the collection of Mongolian manuscripts and block prints kept at the IOM RAS. The dissertation was approved as an important contribution to the study of Mongolian poetry.
