Boltach, Iuliia V. Cults and Practices of Early Korean Buddhism in the Narratives of Samguk yusa. — St. Petersburg : Hyperion Publishing House, 2023. — 463, [1] pp. — ISBN 978-5-89332-416-7.

The book contains description and analysis of the basic cults popular among Korean Buddhists at the initial stage of propagation of this religion in Korea (second half of the 1st millennium CE). This study is based on the Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms (Samguk yusa) — a monumental work by the Buddhist monk Iryeon (1206–1289), which is a fundamental source of information about early Korean Buddhism. Additional sources used in this study include Chinese and Korean historical works containing information about activities of early Korean Buddhists. The information obtained from these sources was compared with Buddhist canonical texts dedicated to the cults of various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. As a result, it became possible to elicit specifically Korean aspects of these cults.
The publication is aimed at specialists in the study of religion, culture and history, and also at anyone interested in Buddhism and early history of Korea.
