The monograph presents the research and the commented Russian translation of the 16th–17th-century New-Persian composition entitled “Šāyast — nā šāyast” (“What is the Proper and the Improper”) which relates traditions, customs, religious and ethical prescriptions and prohibitions, being widespread among Zoroastrian communities of Iran and India during the epoch of the late Zoroastrianism that existed in the hostile Moslem environment.

This publication of the valuable Zoroastrian work includes an analytical Introduction, the commented Russian translation of the Persian text of the “Šāyast — nā šāyast”, the Bibliography of primary and secondary sources, and three Appendixes: The first one represents Analogical text excerpts from other sources; the second one consists of the Glossary of proper names and Zoroastrian terminology; and the third one — a Facsimile of the original Persian text of the work from the Zoroastrian manuscript С 1869 (XVI—XVII cent.), now in the collection of the Institute of Oriental manuscripts, St. Petersburg.
