The book is the result o f the author’s long-time research into the texts from the Nag Hammadi
collection as well as into other ancient manuscripts. It is devoted to the in-depth analysis o f that religious
phenomenon o f the first centuries A.D. which in contemporary science is commonly called Gnosticism.
Here, the author puts forward his own concept o f the phenomenon’s nature as a whole and examines
many particular cases o f Gnostic texts provenance as well. The book contains a Coptic text and
an annotated translation o f one o f the most intriguing Gnostic texts, the Apocalypse of Peter. It is intended
