Born on January 12, 1953, in Leningrad.
In 1976, graduated from Leningrad State University, the Faculty of Oriental Studies.
In 1987, defended the PhD Dissertation, The Treatise by Muhammad Masum, 'Khulasat as-siyar', as a Source on the History of Iran during the 1630s [Сочинение Мухаммада Ма‘сума “Хуласат ас-сийар” как источник по истории Ирана 30-х гг. XVII века].
Worked as a senior researcher at the IOM RAS.
From 2003 up to present, a lecturer at the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Philosophy, St Petersburg State University, gives lectures on the Russian and Iranian relations from mid-16th to late 20th centuries, the history of arts of Old and Modern Iran.
Major research interests: Persian mss from the 17th to 18th centuries; the Russian private and state business in Iran during late 19th to early 20th centuries.
