On December 12, 2024, the first part of the 21st All-Russia Academic Conference “Faizkhanov Readings” on the topic “Islam in Russia: history and culture” took place at the IOM, RAS (Novo-Mikhailovsky palace). The conference was organized by the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia with assistance from the Fund for Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education.

The conference was opened by Irina F. Popova, Director of the IOM RAS, Doctor of Sciences in History, Corresponding member of the RAS, and Mufti Damir Mukhetdinov, First Deputy Head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, President of the Moscow Islamic Institute, Doctor of Theology. More than 60 scholars from across Russia involved in Faizkhanov studies took part in the first day of the Conference “Faizkhanov Readings ‒ XXI”. Participants discussed topics related to the history and culture of Islam in Russia and also presented recent projects and research on the study and popularization of the heritage of the outstanding theologian and orientalist Husain Faizkhanov (1823‒1866).
