A maskil in Leningrad
In memory of Vsevolod Lvovich Vikhnovich (1937‒2022)

Saint Petersburg
October 29, 2024

Dear colleagues and friends!

The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences will hold a conference in memory of Vsevolod L. Vikhnovich (1937‒2022) on October 29, 2024 (Tuesday) at the Green Hall of the Novo-Mikhailovsky Palace (Dvortsovaya embankment, 18).

Vsevolod L. Vikhnovich was a scholar, a tireless promoter of Jewish culture in its various forms, and an author of several monographs. The conference title, “A maskil in Leningrad”, highlights dedicated efforts of this educator. We wish to honour him by (not necessarily academic) presentations on classical Judaica and the history of the Jewish people in the Holy Land and in diaspora.

Books from the personal library of V.L. Vikhnovich, donated by his last will to the IOM RAS, will be exhibited during the conference.

Please submit your presentation topic and additional information (full name, academic degree, academic title, affiliation, position) by October 18, 2024 to the secretary of the organizing committee, Serguei Alexeyevich Frantsouzoff, Doctor of Sciences in History, Head of the Department of Middle Eastern and Near Eastern Studies, IOM RAS, by email:
