The Annual IOM Academic Session “The Written Heritage of the Orient as the Basis for Classical Tradition of Oriental Studies” will be held on December 4–6, 2023.

Dvortsovaya emb., 18, Saint-Petersburg

The following topics will be discussed:
- written sources as the basis for classical Oriental studies;
- Oriental textology, translation principles and methods of textual criticism;
- source studies and historiography of the East;
- political, ethnocultural and socioeconomic history of the East;
- traditional religious, philosophical and legal systems of the East;
- literature, epic and folklore of the Eastern peoples;
- theories of structure and historical development of Oriental languages;
- methods of cataloguing and describing collections of Oriental manuscripts and documents;
- problems of manuscript preservation and restoration;
- creating electronic databases and using modern technologies to study Oriental texts.
