On May 20, 2023, members of the IOM RAS staff took part in the first event of the volunteer work project “Restoring names: Russian patriots of foreign descent” [Возвращая имена. Русские патриоты иностранного происхождения]. The project, aiming to preserve the Smolenskoye Lutheran Cemetery, the oldest in the city, is carried out by the St Petersburg Restorers’ Association supported by the St Petersburg Committee for the state preservation of historical and cultural monuments (KGIOP).
Young researchers and postgraduate students of the IOM RAS, led by leading restorers of Saint Petersburg, have done a clean-up and washed the gravestones of the Academicians
B.A. Dorn (1805-1881), V.V. Barthold (1869-1930), F.J. Wiedemann (1805-1887), B.Y. Vladimirtsov (1884-1931), P.L. Schilling von Cannstatt (1786-1837), A.A. Inostrantsev (1843-1919), E.E. Obermiller (1901-1935), V.V. Radlov (1837-1918).
