Professor Dr. Giovanni Stary passed away on October 19, 2022 in Venice. He was an outstanding scholar of Manchu studies, a professor at the University of Venice, and a great friend of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts RAS. He contributed much to the study and publication of Manchu manuscripts kept at the IOM RAS. As the chief editor of the Central Asiatic Journal, he always made sure that the Institute library received all its issues. He will always be fondly remembered.
