On November 24-25, 2022
will be held an international Russian-Mongolian academic conference
Sixth St.Petersburg readings in Mongolian Studies

Venue: Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, RAS. Dvortsovaya emb., 18. Novomikhailovsky Palace. Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Co-organizers: Saint-Petersburg University, The State Hermitage Museum, Institute of History And Ethnology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

The conference continues periodic academic events held by the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences since 2016. Traditionally, it is dedicated to any remarkable event in Mongolian studies, a specific Mongolist who contributed to the study of Mongolia, Central Asia, or a significant political , a cultural figure of the Mongolian people. During this time, IOM RAS and ILL MAS held conferences dedicated to Konstantin F. Golstunsky, Alexey G. Sazylin, Zoya K. Kasyanenko, representatives of the Moscow school of Mongolian studies, 200th anniversary of IOM RAS. This year's conference is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Russian and Polish Mongolist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Polish Oriental Society Vladislav L. Kotvich (08.20.1872–10.03.1944) and the 110th anniversary of the Russian Mongolist, Cand.Sc. (Philology), professor of St. Petersburg University, who brought up a whole range of Russian Mongolists, successor of the St. Petersburg school of Oriental studies Taisiya A. Burdukova (05.23.1912–06.04.1987). Academic life of both researchers was closely connected with St. Petersburg.

The conference is expected to discuss issues in literature, language, the history of the Mongolian peoples, as well as the history of Mongolian studies in Russia and abroad. Particular attention will be paid to the problems that V.L. Kotvich and T.A. Burdukova were closely involved in - the study of Mongolian literature, Mongolian languages and folklore on the basis of field researches in Mongolia and Kalmykia.

The main objective of the conference is to present to the academic community the latest results of the study of written and oral monuments of Mongolian literature and show the possibilities of modern research methods and approaches to the problems of Russian and worldwide Mongolian studies.

Languages: Russian, Mongolian, English.

Applications for participation in the conference should be sent to e-mail address dnosov@mail.ru until November 1, 2022. The application must contain: full name, academic degree, academic title, affiliation, e-mail address, phone number, title of the report and abstracts (up to 8,000 characters). The second circular will be sent out after November 5, 2022. Expenses for the stay in St. Petersburg, visa processing, transportation costs - at the expense of the participants. Abstracts are to be published before the conference. Selected papers will be published in St.Petersburg journal of Mongolian Studies “Mongolica” during 2023.
