On May 25, 2013, the annual awards of the St. Petersburg Government and the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the RAS for the preeminent achievements in sciences and technologies were given. The Governor of St. Petersburg, Mr. Georgy Poltavchenko headed the ceremony. 

In the area of philological studies, the IOM Director, Prof. Dr. Irina Popova was awarded for her studies of the written heritage of China and Central Asia.
