On February 9, 2011, the open meeting of the Section of South Asian Studies dedicated to the memory of Prof Dr Valery I. Rudoi (06.02.1940 – 29.08.2009) was held. The Head of the Section, Dr Margarita I. Vorobyova-Desyatovskaya and Prof Dr Elena P. Ostrovskaya delivered their speeches. Dr M.Vorobyova-Desyatovskaya told about the initial period of Dr Rudoi’s work at the Institute, his enthusiasm and high professionalism that proved obvious at that time already. Dr E.Ostrovskaya characterized some early papers by Dr V.Rudoi as an important contribution to the study of issues of Buddhist philosophy. Then, during the inofficial part of the meeting, some other colleagues, disciples and friends of Dr Valery Rudoi shared their memories of the scholar. It was decided to found a new annual conference in memory of Prof Dr V.I.Rudoi. Dr S.Kh.
