On October 5, 2006, a representative delegation of officials from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta, and the Ambassador of Afghanistan in the Russian Federation, Mr Ghulam Sakhi Ghairat, visited the St Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies.

An exhibition of Arabic and Afghan mss kept at the Institute was prepared for the delegation. The guests observed it with a great interest and expressed their wish to ascertain academic contacts with the Institute's scholars.
