On October 19-21, 2009, in St Petersburg the First International Scholarly and Practical Conference Russia-Mongolia: the Historical-Cultural Interaction, Past and Present (to the 70th Anniversary of events at the Khalkhin Gol river) was held. It was organized by the St Petersburg Society of Friends of Mongolia, the A.S.Popov Central Museum of Communications, the International Foundation for the Support of Social Initiatives, PeterLux Company, in partnership with the Society of Friends of Mongolia, Moscow, the Institute of Oriental Studies, RAS, St Petersburg State University, the Federation of Cosmonautics of Russia, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the Union of Mongolian Societies of Friendship. The major topics discussed at the conference: events at Khalkhin Gol river. View from the Future; Russia and Mongolia in researches by Russian, Mongolian and Western historians, politologists, philosophers and philologists; Russia and Mongolia: eight centuries of joint history; Russia and Mongolia: cultural interaction; Contribution of Russian science and culture into the development of Mongolia. Some honored guests were invited to the conference such as Victor V. Gorbatko, Russian astronaut, the Hero of the USSR (twice), the hero of Mongolia, the Hero of Vietnam, the President of the Society of Friends of Mongolia, Moscow; Vladimir A.
