01/02/2008
On September 10th, 2007 a delegation of the China Tibetology Research Center headed by its Vice Director-General Professor Zhu Xiaoming visited the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts. Four other staff members of the Center joined the delegation: Chen Qingying, Luorong Zhandui, Ahua (Ngadpal) and Dawa Tsering. This Beijing-based research center was founded in 1986. It is directly managed by the Chinese government and it is engaged not only in research and publishing activities but it also coordinates Tibetan studies throughout the whole country. During the meeting with the Director Dr. I.F.Popova and researchers of the Institute, Professor Zhu Xiaoming spoke in detail about the activities of the Center. The Chinese guests were taken on a guided tour of the Institute's manuscript department and were shown the treasures of the Tibetan written heritage from Dunhuang scrolls to the woodblock editions of the Buddhist Canon. The tour inspired much discussion and questions from the Chinese colleagues. Questions were answered and a good dialogue developed. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the fact of establishing cooperation between the Institute and the China Tibetology Research Center.
