Suroven D.A. The Chronology of Ancient Japan. – Yekaterinburg: Universal Printing House “Alpha Print”, 2026. – Vol. II. – 373 pp. ISBN 978-5-9080776-6-8

The monograph examines the problem of accuracy of ancient Japanese chronology, which remains understudied in Russia and in the West. This important issue is tied with calculating the time of the Yamato dynasty’s foundation and establishment of the Yamato state. Back at the turn of the 20th century, Japanese and Western scholars found out that the beginnings of Yamato history had been moved back a thousand years in the early 7th century for political reasons. This monograph deals with calendar issues, chronological fixation of ancient Japanese historical events, attempts at reconstruction of ancient Japanese chronology, and correction of chronological errors and distortions that resulted from shifts and “stretches” of the reigns of the first Yamato rulers.

The book will be of interest to historians and Asian Studies researchers who investigate the early history of East Asia.
