The monograph is a study of material culture and history of Ancient Iran states at the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE. Controversial issues of this period include: the chronology of the Early Iron Age, the dating of archaeological materials and their cultural affiliation, as well as cultures of Iranian-speaking population.
The main goal of this study is to check and make more precise the dates of the most representative archaeological materials that define the chronology of the Early Iron Age of Ancient Iran. The work’s structure is defined by this goal. It contains six essays, five of which discuss the material culture and history of Iran’s five regions: the Iranian plateau (Median kingdom and the Sialk B burial site), Lake Urmia region (the Kingdom of Mannaea territory to the south of Lake Urmia and the region to the west of it) and the Caspian Sea region. This study aims to collect all the archaeological data available at present and, based on its analysis combined with interpretation of data from written sources, to provide a well-grounded description of the material culture and historical events of Ancient Iran at the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE during the pre-Achaemenid period.
