Education:
Sept. 1981-June 1987, St. Petersburg University, The Department of Oriental Studies (St. Petersburg State University), specialization: History and politics of Arabian countries, Islamic History, Literature.
Dec. 1987-Dec. 1990, St. Petersburg University, The Faculty of Journalism, Graduate School, specialization: Foreign journalism
Field experience:
Sept. 1984 – July 1985 — The Institute for teaching Arabic for foreigners (Damascus, Syria), specialization: Arabic language, Literature.
Dissertations:
In 1994, defended the Ph.D. Dissertation The Forming of Publicism in Arabic in Sudan, the 1930s to 1980s [Становление арабоязычной публицистики в Судане (1930—1980-е гг.)].
In 2013, defended the Habilitation Dissertation The History and Culture of Sudan during the 16th to 19th сс. [История и культура Судана XVI – начало XIX вв.].
Employment:
From September 1996 up to present, works at the Faculty of the Oriental Studies, an associate professor (from 2002) at the Department of the History of the Near East (from 2013).
Major research interests: the history, geography, culture and religion of Arabic countries; the history of Sudan; Russia and the Arabs, Islam in Sudan; the Arabic language.
Participated in a number of international conferences such as Cyprus -Nicosia (September 2008), PIAC 52 Conference Huhhot (China), Romania- Bucharest (September 2009), PIAC 53 (St. Petersburg, Russia), Russia and the Arab world: dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Sheikh Muhammad ‘Ayyad al-Tantawi (1810-18661) (St. Petersburg, Russia), etc.
In 2007, gave a series of lectures at Uppsala University, Sweden (2007).
